The female hair loss can have diverse causes and intensities, but it is always a great upheaval. Many times exaggerated, the hair loss is a great problem once the hair is the “facial frame” and contributes a lot to female beauty. What happens frequently is that the initial case of female hair fall is hardly clinically evident. That’s why many times a patient with hair complaints is not taken that seriously by some doctors, who may see on women, a certain exaggeration and for this reason, many times can end up not given the proper attention, failing in investigate the problem appropriately.
Until the initial complains turn into an evident clinical case, much time may have been wasted. To make the diagnosis even more difficult, there are many variation when it comes to hair types: it can be thick or thin, long or short, of slow or fast growth, of short cycles from 2 to 3 years, or long, of up to 7; it can be dense or sparse, or fragile, brightless, discolored, smoothing, relaxed, lighted and other infinities of cosmetic handlings. Therefore, many times it’s hard for the doctor to precise the size of damage that the loss have achieved, therefore to the initial examination the volume is still apparently normal. As example, we have a woman with pretty thick, long, dense and shining hair. In this case, even with intense losses, the clinical aspect would still be normal, once its volume would be above the average. |

Thus, the specialist can disregard the complaint labeling the case as a normal physiological one. And many times it is! How to differentiate them, though? The answer is: With detailed anamnesis and a criterious laboratorial and clinical examination. If a meticulous examination was lead, signs of chronical hair loss would be observed, thus allowing a precocious diagnosis and an equally soon, handling. A total different example is of a woman with fine and sparse hair, almost of baby, in which any variation of volume or hair loss is soon evident, not only for the doctor as for herself, and others. For an adequate handling a proper diagnosis is necessary. As Hippocrates once said, "he who does not know what he’s looking for, cannot interpret what he finds".

It’s worth to remember that hair symptoms can be the indication of other systemic illnesses, as they were the tip of the iceberg. Therefore, total attention is advised. The doctor must be careful and the patient must be "patient" because the diagnosis is not always easy, as it isn’t the handling.
Female hair loss classification
The first sign of female hair loss is a hair thinning, generally seen on the forepart and the superior part of the head. In the beginning it seems that the hairdo scratch becomes wider, until it’s able to notice a reduction of the volume and a slow growth of the hair (Degree I). Later, an accented rarefaction creates a kind of transparency allowing one to see the contour of the head through the hair (Degree II). The hair becomes ultra thin, clearer, and fragile (Degree III). In this stage the baldness is installed already. The hair line on the forehead is generally saved, as well as the hair on the posterior region, above the nape of the neck, for being less susceptible to hormonal action. In the anterior line the aromatase enzyme helps protecting the hair from hormonal action.

Types of Hair Loss
The types of hair loss is a complex and extensive subject, therefore we made a simplified classification of the most frequent complaints. The following is the most usual possible causes to these types of hair loss.
Severe located loss
The acute losses, of sudden beginning, always alarm. Although they make the person frightened, in general it’s something that goes away, once the frequent cause is local trauma such as cosmetic-use burning or even a hit. Bacteria or fungus infections can also provoked this kind of loss. A different case is the alopecia areata, in which symmetrical or unique located areas without hair appear. The diagnosis is not difficult and the handling must start as soon as possible. For it’s strong relation to immunologic and psychological issues, the route can be variable - but it is, in most cases, favorable. An inquiry must be carried not only for the diagnostic causes but also for checking the existence of any associated case.

Located Chronical loss
Perhaps this is one of the most difficult cases because the diagnosis is generally delayed or is gotten in an advanced phase, making the handling difficult once it is less responsive in cases already installed. Reversing the problem is much more complex than to stabilize it when it first appears, or to delay the advance of the process. We are talking about Female Androgenic Alopecia, recently called, Female Hair Loss pattern. The clinical case develops with a gradual hair thinning, in general in the frontal region of the scalp. The hair starts having a slower growth in the front region of the scalp, followed by a hair thinning and reduction of the volume. In a certain point it compromises the density of the hair, conferring "a thin and transparent" aspect. In extreme cases it can evolve for baldness. As strong characteristic, it generally preserves the hair in the posterior region, above the nape (occipital region). Another feature of the female androgenic alopecia (FAA) is its bigger incidence in two distinct age bands: soon after the adolescence and after the menopause. Frequently a there’s a familiar description. One of the great difficulties is to carry through the diagnosis precociously. As the clinical examination can be inconclusive, it can be necessary to carry through a biopsy or a microscopic photograph of the scalp, improving the assertiveness and allowing to initiate the handling as soon as possible. Although the handling is still limited, we know today that many other factors influence the clinical handling response and as it does in the course of the problem itself. Although historically, the masculine genetics and hormones are pointed as the cause, today we are not so sure about it, once the FAA is many times able to be associated to other diffuser patterns or even for a less effective response to the androgens (masculine hormones) blockers, differently from what occurs in the masculine baldness. It is frequent to have other hair cases associates, mainly the ones caused by nutritional deficiencies. There are many treatments available, what shows a certain limitation. That’s the reason why the precocious start of the handling is so important, once these medications have limited effect to reversing the problem, being more indicated to stabilize it. It also gets critical to treat other associated problems, with better therapeutical reply, therefore they will re-echo positively in the evolution of the FAA. Thus, the possible success of the handling inhabits in a global boarding, correlating everything that is involved, also the psychological side and the personal satisfaction with one’s current life style.
Diffuse Chronic loss
Quality of life, health and hair: point of view
Arthur Tykocinski
The importance of the way we live, where we live and what we eat are fundamentally aspects to determine the individual’s global health. Something apparently, obvious for our grandmothers, has been, for years, rejected by western medicine. The great difficulty is to carry through scientific works proving what seems so evident: the quality of life is determinant not only in the duration of our lives, as also as in the way we age. To get alder is inevitable, but the to be incapacitated by the aging process can be reduced, allowing to get older with dignity; with a certain independence; with a full social life and even economically productive. In order to do so we must opt to have a lifestyle that is pleasant (as much as possible), to regularly practice sports (aerobics and gym are essential), to get a healthful feeding habits if we want to reach the emotional balance. In order words, it is to live in harmony, a good life with enough and re-establish hours of sleep. This way, the hair, as indicator of health, as well as all the whole body will profit.
Stress and its psychological aspect
The old ones used to say “a sane mind in a healthy body". The opposite is equally, recommendable. Our fast-beat life and the growing competition make us try to push the limits. To get worse, we have the great-cities factors which influence our quality of life such as the busy transit, pollution and sedentarism. In addition, the little contact with nature tends to isolate us in a stressful routine with almost none physical activity. We walk little and we sleep badly – which consume our energy and make us even more mentally worn down. Searching for the equilibrium is not only important, but vital. The ideal is to create a harmonic living environment where body and mind can be health.
This is hard to prove scientifically, especially without great laboratories willing to finance research. But there have been some studies, as “the hole of stress as a ‘trigger’ to alopecia areata”. Another study shows the psychological stress inducting the hair’s catagenous and increasing the inflammatory process.
We are speaking of quality of life, that obviously, works for everyone, be they bald or not. Medicine has been illuminated by the eastern philosophy and its commands. Acupuncture is a nowadays considered a medical specialty. The sports medicine, as well as other medical areas has recognized the value of the practice of Yoga, the relaxation, meditation and other philosophies which search to equilibrate the vital energy. This would be one of the ways to search the mind-body balance.
In order to achieve that people must question themselves to find out what they really want for their lives and what really matters. Many times people keep in search for somebody else’s ideal, which means to live in internal conflict that only consumes them. To identify the dispensable causes of stress is a good start, already. To rearrange your routine, giving emphasis to sports, leisure and the spiritual peace is essential. We must open space for this. It only depends on us. To diminish the work rhythm can seem to be excusing to money or professional chances, but it is not. If you are to consider, in life how much we can produce in professional terms referring the “total hours worked ", it will notice that we have a stronger rhythm in the younger years than declines with aging. Thus, everything that you do to make today in order to improve your quality of life and to delay this aging will work to make more income in the future, once you will be able to produce more and for a longer period. However, in this case the total amount of hours worked will be bigger if we choose to take care of the body and the mind when we are younger. The best thing is to begin now! It is not a matter of making more money, but of living better. To earn more will be a mere consequence. The question is: What are you earning more?

The hole of feeding
To have a healthful feed, as well as using supplementary food can be important as a secondary hole in hair handling. Not necessarily solving the cause of baldness, but it can contribute a lot on the treatment. If we are to imagine the hair, in the organic point of view, as superfluous to the organism, we will see that any alimentary deficiency is punished with a cut in the systems that are not vital or have no top priority for the organism, such as the hair. For this optics, a nutritional accompaniment and an alimentary supplementation can be highly beneficial. The feeding is not always adjusted or enough: the industrial process reduces the nutritional value of foods, reducing vitamins and staple fibers, that in a certain way exercise the digestive tube, keeping it healthful. To ingest is not the same of absorbing. Besides, in search for a healthy, perfect body, the exercises increase the consumption of micronutrients, oligoelements and proteins of high biological value, rich in essential amino acids. Muscles Eager for nutrients can compete with the hair, disestablishing this delicate balance, so, they must be supplemented. Milk, digested by the adult besides being the insoluble casein responsible for the cheese also contains the soluble casein and lacto globulins, rich in essential amino acids, but not absorbed in the digestive process of an adult. Furthermore, the lactose is a frequent cause of alimentary intolerance in up to 80% of the adult population, causing non-absorptive cases. The adequate supplementation can be gotten with products of ionic-swap whey protein base without lactose, that take the most out of milk, breaking and filtering these proteins, resulting in high absorption, essential AA. The powder can be mixed in juices or water.
In the case of women in fertile phase, there’s an aggravation: the menstrual flow represents a chronic loss to the organism, especially of iron. Theoretically, the organism would have to be capable to counterbalance this loss, magnifying the iron absorption. As we know, this mineral is of difficult absorption, exactly with oral supplementation and what we frequently see, is bordering or low levels of ferritin, compromising the hair. Even when the iron reserves are enough to prevent anemia, this supply can be insufficient for the hair, which demands bigger levels of iron. What happens is as if the organism would give a priority to the hemoglobin production in detriment to the hair, what, biologically makes sense. This is one of the reasons that explain the variations in women’s hair cycle, with frequent effluvia, many times linked to lack of iron. This deficiency can aggravate another problem, the female pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia) or to limit the response of anti-androgynous. Recent studies show that female patients do not respond to the anti-androgynous with low levels of ferritin and must be corrected. Other studies show the importance of the biotin in the hair, as well as the benefit of its supplementation. Zinc, selenium and silicon have their importance. In my opinion, without an adequate and supplemented feed, the therapeutical response is limited.
